The Syrian army bombed militants belonging to the Islamic State in the northern province of Raqqa Monday, AFP reports.

Air strikes reportedly killed roughly 30 jihadists and eight civilians yesterday. There was no immediate death toll for the Monday bombings, according to AFP.

The air strikes involved precision weapons instead of barrel bombs that the Assad regime commonly uses in Aleppo.

The Syrian government has been battling jihadists as well as the Syrian opposition since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011.
