ALBAWABA - Romania’s Defence Ministry said on Sunday that a drone illegally entered its airspace but was shot down by NATO.
According to the ministry's statement, a drone illegally breached Romania's national airspace, and it was destroyed by a Spanish F-18 fighter jet pilot at 05:01 a.m., CNN reported.
The F-18 jet "made radar contact with the target and received permission to engage it," the ministry revealed Sunday.
However, the source of the drone was unknown. However, this is not the first time a drone has breached Romania. Since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, several such incidents have taken place.
For instance, in July, Romanian F-16 fighter jet pilots destroyed three Russian drones breaching the country's airspace.
The ministry only said that radars detected the drone coming from Moldova, some 24 km north of the southeastern Romanian city of Galati, according to CNN.
