David Cameron faced intense mockery on social media after using the phrase “you ain’t no Muslim bruv” during a speech earlier this week, but now it’s Chancellor George Osborne’s turn.

During a speech in New York on Monday, Osborne said that the recent vote to extend airstrikes to Syria was a “ real source of pride."

“Britain has got its mojo back and we are going to be with you as we reassert Western values, confident that our best days lie ahead," the Chancellor the Council on Foreign Relations think tank.

He comments referenced the long friendship between the US and the UK, and its role in the fight against Daesh. He also added that he felt Britain was ready to increase their involvement in the conflict.

His statements have drawn scorn on social media, with some users who are unsupportive of the UK’s action against the extremist group in Syria criticizing his use of the term “Western values," among other things.
