ALBAWABA - Calls of corruption and concern recently flooded social media after a shocking video revealed that a hospital patient in India died when a ceiling fan fell on him while he was in bed.
According to NDTV, citing eyewitnesses, the ceiling fan suddenly came loose and fell on the man's bed, striking 42-year-old Mohammad Akbar in the abdomen at Delhi's Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. The patient's family quickly demanded an inquiry regarding the shocking incident.
On the other hand, the hospital released an official statement denying that the man died from the ceiling fan. The hospital blamed the man's death on his existing medical condition, stating further that he arrived unconscious with uncontrolled hypertension, stroke due to aspiration pneumonia, and respiratory failure.

According to Hindustan Times, Akbar was brought to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by his brother on July 18, who disclosed that the 42-year-old suffered from hypertension, meningoencephalitis, and aspiration pneumonia. The incident occurred when Akbar was receiving emergency treatment.
The statement added that the fan fell due to a problem with its shaft. Akbar died hours after the fan fell on him.
An Indian social media user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Embarrassing! Corruption has become so rampant that it makes me hang my head in shame whenever I see incidents like this. It’s hard to have any hope that things will change, not in the next 5 years, not in 10 years n perhaps not even in the next 50 years."
Another added, "When basic safety inside an emergency ward is compromised, it undermines public trust in the healthcare system. A transparent investigation and responsibility for any negligence are essential."
