ALBAWABA - Lady Gaga discusses her decision to remain silent about the allegations that dominated headlines early in her career, claiming she was a male.
Lady Gaga was unquestionably one of the most talked-about people in the world, as she broke into the music business in the late 2000s and early 2010. As her reputation grew, so did rumors about her personal life.
Background: This myth is supposed to have sprung from images taken during Gaga's 2009 Glastonbury performance, which showed a bulge in her crotch region.
Gaga never disputed the allegations; rather, she aggressively pursued them.
When CNN's Anderson Cooper confronted her about rumors that she had "a masculine appendage," the then-24-year-old pop sensation said, "Maybe I do." Would it be so terrible?"
The pop star notoriously turned down a query about the claims, asking CNN in 2011: "Why the heck am I going to spend my time and make a press release about whether or not I have a penis? My supporters do not care, and neither do I."
"When I was in my early 20s, there was a rumor that I was a man," Gaga said to Bill Gates. "I traveled all over the globe. When I went on tours and promoted my albums, interviewers often mentioned doctored images on the internet and speculations about my gender. "What are your thoughts on that?"
"I didn't respond to the question because I didn't feel like a victim of that falsehood, and I pondered, 'What about a child facing such accusations? Who would believe that a prominent figure such as myself would experience shame?'" Gaga continued. "I've been in situations where putting a rumor to rest proved detrimental to the well-being of others." Gaga continued. In such circumstances, I made an effort to provoke thought and disrupt the situation in a different way. I attempted to leverage the disinformation to create another disruptive point.
Gaga described her experience with disinformation by stating, "I've been used to lies being printed about me since I was 20 years old." I am a performer. I think it's quite humorous."
