ALBAWABA - On Saturday, US authorities issued subpoenas to controversial political streamer Hasan Piker and CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin following their recent trip to Cuba over possible violations of sanctions and travel regulations, as reported by Fox News.

Both Piker and Benjamin traveled to Cuba in March 2026 as part of the "Nuestra América Convoy," a humanitarian aid mission for delivering food, medicine, and solar panels to locals in need. The mission also protested against the ongoing US economic sanctions on the country.

The Fox News report states that the subpoenas are being issued by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is currently investigating Piker and Benjamin for possible breaches of US sanctions laws regarding Cuba.

It adds that the activists on board the convoy potentially made contact with Cuban officials.

In response, Medea Benjamin took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Taking medical supplies to pediatric hospitals in Cuba is now a crime? Saving the lives of babies is a crime? This administration is beyond grotesque." Hasan Piker, who also goes by HasanAbi on his socials, reposted her statement.
