Ayham explained that the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in front of the company's headquarters in the Qudsaya suburb of Damascus. An unknown group impersonating General Security officers kidnapped his father using two cars and took him to an unknown location.
He confirmed that the family had informed the security authorities from the outset, but to date, no official or confirmed information has emerged regarding his fate.
In contrast, the spokesperson for the Syrian Ministry of Interior, Noureddine Al-Baba, issued a statement via the X platform, completely denying that the ministry was behind Qabnoud's arrest, stressing that the ministry does not take any action outside the legal framework.
The statement revealed that initial investigations proved that Qabnoud was kidnapped by a gang impersonating security personnel, with the aim of blackmailing his family and tarnishing the ministry's image. The statement emphasized that the relevant authorities are seriously pursuing those involved.
The spread of the news sparked a wave of solidarity and concern within the Syrian artistic community, where artists and producers expressed their confusion; some believed that what had happened was an official arrest, while others adopted the narrative of a kidnapping.
Mohammed Qabnoud is one of the most prominent producers of Syrian drama over the past two decades. His company has produced prominent works such as "Zaman Al-Barghout," "Atr Al-Sham," and "Tawq Al-Banat." He also produced parts of the famous series "Bab Al-Hara," starting with its tenth season.
