ALBAWABA - No signs that the fight between Stephen Colbert and President Trump will end any time soon, even after The Late Show won an Emmy.
At the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert won best talk show for the first time. It beat out Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Daily Show.
Colbert was excited to show off his golden statuette to his live crowd on his first show after the awards show on Tuesday. He joked, "We should have gotten canceled years ago." CBS said in July that The Late Show would end in May 2026, which is what the show seemed to be talking about.
Following this, he said, "This award belongs to the 200 hardworking people who make this show, first and foremost the writers of this show." "Every day, they write down everything I say on stage so that everyone has a script to take home." It is amazing. Every day, they do it.
"But they don't do it alone," Colbert said next. The people who work on the set, in production, with the actors, editors, and band, in the control room, with the props, graphics, research, digital work, accounting, legal work, wardrobe, make-up, security, maintenance, helpers, and interns. And, of course, the crowd, who let all of you beautiful people in every night. Because you, the audience, people here and there, are what make this show possible in the end, so this also goes to you, but I'm going to keep it.
He then made a joke that he would "jab your eyes out with the wings right there" if anyone touched his Emmy.
Colbert also thanked the Television Academy for voting for him, the makers of The Late Show, and his fellow nominees, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel.
As a way to end his opening speech about the show's most recent Emmy win, the host made fun of his longtime enemy, Donald Trump, saying, "Speaking of Emmys, Donald Trump doesn't have one."

It was a pleasant surprise for Stephen Colbert and the team when The Late Show won its first Emmy. This was because the show had been canceled, and the president was quick to brag about the news in July. At the time, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Stephen Colbert got fired,” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time. “His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! [Fox News late night host] Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Trump doesn't have an Emmy Award, but for The Apprentice in 2004 and 2005, he was nominated twice for best reality competition show.
