Kristen Stewart, the star of Love Lies Bleeding and the upcoming Sacramento, has graced the cover of Rolling Stone’s March 2024 issue, and she’s not holding anything back.
The actress, who identifies as a queer woman, wanted to send a clear message with her cover shoot: “hyper-sexualized, left of andro, and flipping the gender script”.
Stewart, who rose to fame with the Twilight saga, said she was tired of always being asked about her ex-boyfriend and co-star Robert Pattinson. “It’s f***ing weird,” she told the magazine. “We broke up like eight years ago. Can we move on?”.
Stewart also opened up about her current relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer, whom she met on a movie set in 2022. She said they have a “very chill” and “very honest” bond, and that they are planning to get married someday. “She’s my best friend, and I love her more than anything,” Stewart gushed.
The cover story also revealed some details about Stewart’s upcoming projects, including her directorial debut, a sci-fi thriller called The Chronology of Water, based on a memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch. Stewart said she was drawn to the story because of its exploration of trauma, sexuality, and creativity. “It’s the most personal thing I’ve ever done,” she said.
Stewart also talked about her role in Sacramento, a biopic of the late singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. She said she spent months learning to play the guitar and sing like Mitchell, and that she felt a deep connection with her music and her life. “She’s a genius, and a pioneer, and a badass,” Stewart said. “I hope I did her justice”.
Stewart’s Rolling Stone cover has generated mixed reactions online, with some fans praising her for her boldness and authenticity, and others criticizing her for her provocative poses and outfits.
Stewart said she doesn’t care what people think of her, as long as she stays true to herself. “I’m not here to please anyone,” she said. “I’m here to live my life, and to make art that matters to me”
