Lebanese singer Wael Jassar was arrested at Cairo International Airport as he was heading back to Beirut, reported Laha Magazine.
While we want to feel sorry for the singer, it's kinda hard to when we know he's only been arrested for having too much money... literally!
The 43-year-old star was held by Egyptian police for carrying $54,000 in cash, while passengers are only allowed a maximum sum of $10,000 at any time when travelling from Cairo to overseas.
Jassar said that he had "never heard of this law before." Funny that, since he's an international star who practically lives out of a suitcase, due to work commitments!
Well, Jassar learned this lesson on money the hard way, as he had to give up $44,000 in exchange for his release. Ouch.
It's alright though, there's plenty more where that came from!
Jassar was in town to hold a concert in Alexandria. He said in a statement (following his release) that his arrest was a "mere misunderstanding," adding that he's "unfamiliar with Egyptian law on carrying foreign currencies abroad."
