The Lebanese-German production Street Of Death will be the only Arab film to compete for the 2017 Berlinale Short Film award.

The short film, written and directed and shot by Karam Ghossein, was commissioned by Ashkal Alwan, the Lebanese Association of Plastic Arts.

A rough cut of the film premiered at the 2016 VideoWorks Beirut.

The action is set in a Beirut suburb located near the airport, which the director describes as “the place of beginnings”, the focus of the short.

The 1969 Algerian production, Monangambeee, directed by Sarah Maldoror, will be screened in the same section of Berlinale.
