ALBAWABA - Egyptian social media was abuzz with videos and photos of the first-ever hijabi woman competing in the Miss Egypt 2025 pageant.

The girl appeared on stage, causing a wide fuss online while she was showing off her elegance and beauty in front of the audience, amidst great applause and interaction.

A hijabi woman participated in the Miss Egypt 2025 pageant, igniting a massive and controversial debate across the Egyptian community.

Reactions varied between those who supported the woman, seeing it as "breaking stereotypes and celebrating diversity" as well as an uprising against fixed minds in the community, and those who were sarcastic or opposed, questioning whether the participation fit with the traditional image of the competition.

Some people went furious and said that a hijabi woman in a beauty pageant is "unacceptable" and that she should respect the veil she is wearing.

A person wrote on Facebook, "This is disrespect for religion and Sharia. This is shameful."

Another commented, "Where is the hijab? No offense, but not anyone who puts a piece of cloth over half of their hair, then it becomes a hijab."
