After concluding his charity concerts at the Cairo Opera House, international singer Demis Roussos took a tour of Egypt's ancient capital along with his wife and musicians.
Roussos, whose wife Mericco Sugolo is a UN goodwill ambassador, breezed through the working-class Al Hussein neighborhood, according to the local daily Al Ahram.
Roussos also wandered around Al Azhar neighborhood, shopped at Kahn Al Khalili and had breakfast at a restaurant where he was mobbed by the locals. The singer, who feasted on beans and tea and smoked a water pipe, talked to the crowds in the Egyptian dialect.
“My early childhood in Alexandria and Cairo created a sense of tolerance and hospitality in my consciousness, which characterize the Egyptian people,” the singer, who was born in Egypt, told the daily.
Roussos is due to leave Cairo Saturday to hold a number of concerts in other Arab countries.
Roussos was born in Alexandria, where he lived along with his parents. His father was a successful architect, but the family was forced to leave for Greece, their country of origin, after the Suez Canal war – Albawaba.com
