ALBAWABA - Activision's all-new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is experiencing a rocky launch due to issues, including a strange campaign and the lack of new gameplay mechanics to justify a new sequel just one year later.
Now, the game is under fire for incorporating AI-generated artwork in its assets, including calling cards, posters, and reward icons. A Reddit user wrote in a thread discussing the issue, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is littered with AI art slop, because your $70 means nothing anymore."
Many others also urged fans not to buy the game to refrain from supporting the usage of AI-generated content in future titles.
Another Reddit user wrote, "High Fantasy Studio Ghibli is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Call of Duty. It goes perfectly with the Nicki Minaj and Seth Rogan skins. God these guys have lost the fuc*ing plot."
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 under fire for using AI art
The AI-generated artwork seems to have used Hayao Miyazaki's iconic Studio Ghibli art style as a base, which went viral months back when social media users started generating AI content using it through ChatGPT. Many called the viral trend "disrespectful" and "unacceptable" to Miyazaki's legacy and work.
Despite the backlash it received months back, Activision and Treyarch's new game incorporated AI art using the style, causing a flood of angry comments from gamers and artists alike.
According to several reports, the anger stems from people's discontent with AI replacing capable human artists, including illustrators, concept artists, and animators.
It seems even Black OPs 7's Prestige icons fell victim to the same issue, as they are also allegedly AI-generated. However, they were touched up to indicate otherwise, as reported by FRVR.

The campaign, which is usually highly regarded by fans, also received backlash for many reasons, including strange decisions such as being online-only with no pausing. Several users also claimed to have been kicked out of the campaign if they went idle for too long.
