ALBAWABA Passengers aboard a JetBlue flight bound for New York City were met with an unexpected situation when fog from the vents began pouring on them for hours during the journey.
In a TikTok video, Savannah Gowarty captured the startling moment when fog seemingly filled the aircraft cabin. Quoting the pilot's announcement, she noted, "It appears to be raining in the cabin."
The video garnered immense attention on TikTok, amassing 5.8 million views and 480,000 likes, with viewers expressing shock and disbelief at the incident.
Gowarty's video depicted herself and fellow passengers visibly soaked, with water dripping from their faces. Despite attempts to dry off using available means, including her armrest, the mist persisted throughout the flight, which lasted four hours.
Experts explained that such occurrences are relatively common, attributed to the interaction of humid air with water condensation on air-handling units and cooling coils. Christopher Hennon, a meteorology professor at Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University, clarified that the phenomenon typically arises when planes remain stationary at the gate for an extended period without engine operation.
Upon engine activation and air conditioning unit engagement, rapid cooling of air near the vents can lead to saturation and the formation of dense fog. However, Hennon reassured that the condensation dissipates as cabin air gradually becomes drier.
Passengers flying from humid regions corroborated the frequency of such incidents, highlighting that it's a recurring experience, particularly in humid climates.
