ALBAWABA- Amidst a widespread boycott in Arab and Islamic nations stemming from Starbucks' alleged support for the Israeli military during the Gaza conflict post the October 7th Al-Aqsa Flood, resulting in staggering losses nearing $11 billion, both the global Starbucks brand and Al-Shaya in Kuwait have pledged $3 million to the World Central Kitchen.
This move appears to signal an effort to address their past actions, possibly aiming to mend ties and regain consumer trust.
The Kuwaiti-based "Al-Shaya-Starbucks" initiative's donation aims to provide crucial food aid to the people of Gaza. The boycott was triggered by accusations of Starbucks' backing of Israel, coinciding with the conflict's eruption, leading to significant financial repercussions for the company.
In a statement, Mohammed Alshaya, Executive Chairman of the Alshaya Group, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic events unfolding in Gaza, emphasizing their commitment to supporting local communities and partners. He affirmed that through these donations, they aim to provide essential aid and relief to the people of Gaza.
Echoing this sentiment, Duncan Moir, President of Starbucks Europe, Middle East, and Africa, conveyed profound sadness for those impacted by the crisis in Gaza, particularly those facing the threat of hunger.
Moir emphasized Starbucks' broader mission beyond coffee, stating their dedication to making positive contributions and supporting initiatives that do the same.
