Pakistani woman assaulted due to dress adorned with Arabic words

ALBAWABA In a distressing incident in Pakistan, a woman faced a terrifying ordeal after being assaulted by a group of individuals who mistakenly believed her attire, adorned with Arabic calligraphy, to contain of Quran. 

The assailants threatened her life, prompting intervention by Pakistani law enforcement authorities.

The situation unfolded in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, where the woman found herself surrounded by a gathering crowd outside a local restaurant. Initially, approximately 300 people had assembled around her, with tensions escalating rapidly.

Prompted by a call received around 13:10 local time (08:10 GMT) on Sunday, the police swiftly responded to the scene.

Video footage capturing the incident circulated widely on social media platforms, portraying the woman visibly distressed as she sought refuge in a corner of the restaurant, shielding her face from the crowd. 

Images also depicted law enforcement officers forming a protective barrier around her, shielding her from further harm as the situation grew increasingly volatile. 

Disturbingly, in some video clips, individuals within the crowd can be heard issuing threats against her life.

Thankfully, due to the timely intervention of the city police, the woman was safely escorted away from the scene, escaping potential harm. Subsequently, a public apology was issued to her, acknowledging the misunderstanding that led to the distressing ordeal.

According to reports from the BBC, the woman's attire featured Arabic calligraphy spelling out the word "Helwa." 

Despite the chaos and unwarranted hostility directed towards her, the woman asserted her innocence, emphasizing that her clothing contained Arabic letters, not Quran. She expressed remorse for any offense caused, extending an apology amidst the turmoil.
