A GCC woman urged the Sharjah Criminal Court to drop a case which she had lodged against her husband for severely beating her. While calling for his release, she requested the prosecution to ensure that her husband stops his violent behavior.

The court had sentenced the defendant to three years' imprisonment in absentia and fined him 6,000 dirhams ($1634).

After the husband was arrested, he was referred to the court.

The woman said she wanted to take back the lawsuit against her husband because "he was the father of her children". The court ordered the release of the husband, who was jailed four months ago, after a written undertaking from him that he will not repeat his offense and respect his wife.

Earlier, the man had inflicted injuries on his wife, who had to be treated for her wounds at a hospital. The woman said her husband used to get annoyed over petty matters and thrashed her black and blue.

The court adjourned the case for judgment in December.
