Lebanese Customs Department Wednesday seized contaminated ice cream smuggled from Syria and headed for the northern city of Tripoli.
A security source told The Daily Star that customs stopped a refrigerated truck near the oil refinery in Tripoli after authorities observed suspicious movement as the truck traveled from Syria through unofficial routes in Wadi Khaled.
The source said the truck carried 340 boxes of ice cream with 40 pieces each.
Testing showed that the ice cream was “100 percent” contaminated, according to the source.
He said the truck driver, a Palestinian, was arrested and an investigation was launched.
