UAE Shaikh Mohammed’s daughters ride pink for breast cancer

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday, witnessed part of the annual Pink Caravan Ride, an initiative launched by Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP) Society. The caravan started from Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai.

Shaikh Mohammed’s generous gesture stressed his support of the pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative. The ride was attended by His Highness Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, while Shaikh Mohammed’s daughters, Shaikha Salama and Shaikha Shamma, led the caravan.

Ameera BinKaram, Founder and Chairman of Board of Trustees of FoCP Society of the Higher Organising Committee of the Pink Caravan Ride, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Shaikh Mohammed’s unlimited support. She also lauded the leadership’s support and directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and his wife Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Founder and Royal Patron of the FoCP Society, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC.

Ameera BinKaram added that the participation of Shaikha Salama and Shaikha Shamma attracted attention to the caravan and helped deliver the campaign’s objectives to the community. On its eighth day, the caravan covered 18km, starting from Burj Khalifa and ending at Burj Al Arab. 

Mobile Clinic

Pink Caravan’s mobile clinic, equipped with qualified medical staff, provides free medical scans for breast cancer. According to the medical committee, over 475 patients were scanned on Sunday, totalling 3,971 patients over seven days.

The Pink Caravan is expected to arrive to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning and will proceed from Corniche Park to Zayed Military Hospital covering about 30.5km and concluding with a final ride from Shaikh Zayed Mosque to the Galleria covering 17.3km on its final day.
