Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is feeling pretty ambitious as of late, what with his newfound confidence on Twitter.
He wants to build a new "Ottoman-style" mosque just like the ones in Istanbul — only he wants it in Cuba.
He's even started talking to Cuban President Raul Castro about it. AFP reported Castro and Erdogan met up in Havana on Thursday to finalize the plans.
According to AFP, Cuba and Saudi Arabia had struck up an agreement to build a mosque in Havana but that Erdogan said he could have a mosque be built in another city instead.
"We have told them that we could build a similar one to Ortakoy Mosque in another city, if you have promised to others for Havana," Erdogan told the AFP in Cuba during his Latin American tour. The Ortakoy Mosque was built in Istanbul during the rule of Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid I in 1853.
"I have provided the Cuban officials with all the necessary information... So far they have not taken a negative approach to it," Erdogan said on his presidential website.
