From rigmarole to the ridiculous: a very British time was had by all at the Lebanese Queen’s jubilee fashion show, hosted by the British Embassy in Beirut. This Great British-Lebanese affair gave the stolid royal celebration a spunkier feel by capturing London fashion of today and yesterday together in a Lebanese-fitting rendition.

Middle East fashion designers created nearly 20 looks for the event inspired by Britain in honor of the Queen’s 60th anniversary on the throne. These funky numbers were paraded at the embassy catwalk of a country that is often cited as one giant fashion and car show.
Not the typical 'British' knees up, short of the sandwhiches, sausage rolls washed down with bucks fizz and tea, but it ceratinly had a sparkle and snaz to it with undeniably British touches, sometimes laid on with a trowel. All the traditional garb was there - tartan, crowns and even the giant Ascot-style hats, more often seen on British princesses than Lebanese fashion models.
Designers also added a certain twist to the traditional British style, attaching velvet crowns to the hips of more typically 'Lebo' risque mini-dresses and tartan trains to air hostess outfits: perhaps an ode to the great British sense of humor?
There was even an homage to the Victorian school ma’am with flowing black high top dresses and lace fishtail skirts. Following the show, all the dresses will be sold for charity. Roll up for some Brit-Leb concoctions!
