A baby boy was found abandoned in a prayer room at a UAE hospital just hours after he was born.
Ras Al Khaimah Police got a call on Monday night saying that the infant had been discovered.
“A woman who was praying heard the baby crying. She found the child covered in a piece of fabric,” said Colonel Hamad Ali Al Dabani, head of the investigation department at RAK CID.
Ras Al Khaimah Police responded to a call from a woman who discovered a baby abandoned in a hospital prayer room
The woman searched for the baby’s parents, but when she couldn’t fine them she informed the hospital’s management, who called the police.
“We think the baby was just four hours old when he was found. He had a bottle of milk beside him,” Al Dabani said.
The police believe the child had been born outside the hospital but was left there so he would be discovered.
Dabani said: “We searched all RAK hospitals and discovered the boy was not born in any of them. We believe the mother delivered him on her own.”
The force is now hunting for the youngsters’ parents.
“The baby is in good health according to a doctor’s report and the child is still in hospital,” said Al Dabani.
“Doctors and nurses there will take care of him until we finish the investigation.” He added: “We will carry out medical tests and examine CCTV footage to find out who dumped him.”
