Lorraine viewers were left divided on Thursday morning when a segment showed a model with her bare chest out to discuss how to check for breast cancer.
During the show's resident medical expert Dr.Hilary's appearance, he was joined by model Michelle in speaking viewers through the technicalities of checking breasts for lumps, however some were perturbed by the exposure.
Swarming Twitter, some fans of the show emphasised the importance of raising awareness of the issue while others claimed it is easy to simply research the imagery online rather than show the images on TV so early in the morning.
Lorraine fans took to Twitter to praise the show for showing viewers exactly how to check the breasts for lumps or signs of cancer.
Positive reviews saw tweets writing: 'Best demo of self checking for breast cancer I've ever seen this morning on the show. Well done to awesome model Michelle for getting stuck in on live TV too !!!!...
'Shout out to @lorraine for showing how to do a real breast exam this morning #BreastCancerAwareness #breastcancer... I applaud Lorraine raising breast awareness. All women need to check regularly...
'If you’re offended by bare breasts being on TV during a breast cancer awareness examination item then you need to give your head a wobble #Lorraine...
'Gutted I missed the Breast Awareness this morning but it’s great for this issue to be covered! I had breast cancer back in 2012 and it’s so important to know your own body and check out anything which is unusual! Better to be safe than sorry! xx...
I’m never at home to watch Lorraine but my sister told me this was happening and I think it’s SO important. Disappointed to see some on Twitter saying it’s inappropriate. EVERYONE HAS BREATS. EVERYONE CAN GET BREAST CANCER.'
Others however were outraged at the exposure at the time of the morning, as other viewers penned: 'I’m all for what was just promoted but I’m against the timing of it...
'More people would’ve benefited from a ‘special’ on at 7:30pm for both breast and testicular checks and links to a website, @youtube link or an interactive button...
'I think bringing self checking of breasts knowledge to the public is very important but nearly everyone has access to the internet. Couldn’t @lorraine have just directed us to a link? No need for bare breasts on tv this early in a morning'.
Dr Hilary advised women on what to do, as he said: 'A lot of women say 'Well how do I know what I'm feeling? My breasts are always lumpy and grainy. The thing is that is true. There are women who feel like they have a bag of sand, or rubber...
'That doesn't matter, just look for changes and if among that bag of rice you find a marble, that needs checking. Just go and get it checked out.#
Earlier in the week, Pasty Kensit appeared on the show to discuss losing her mum to breast cancer when she was 23 during a heartbreaking interview.
She revealed her mother was diagnosed first with the disease when she was four, and she 'said goodbye to her seven or eight times before she was 11'.
