Young men and women from Europe and the Middle East gathered to voice a united call for global peace, after discussing the situation in the region and ways to build a better future.

“Let us focus on unity and not on division,” said the message written by youths from the East and the West. “Let us create spaces where we respectful human communication and the opportunity of appealing to the humanity in others are possible.”

The letter came after a 10-day workshop gathered 30 participants at the Evangelical Conference Center in Dhour al-Choueir, to discuss the overextended humanitarian situation in the region and the importance of dialogue in building peace.

“Knowledge is the road to understanding and with understanding comes acceptance, respect and trust,” the message said.

The workshop was organized by the Forum for Development Culture and Dialogue, and supported by the Lutheran church of Denmark and the Danish Arab Initiative.

Dreaming of a world that embraces diversity and cooperation the youths called for the creation of a culture of openness.

“Let us create spaces where respectful human communication and the opportunity of appealing to the humanity in others are possible,” their letter said. “We may be different in identities, cultural backgrounds and religious points of views, yet we all flourish when we are loved.”
