An Istanbul cat named Tombili, who became famous on the Internet for casually posing on some steps in the city's Ziverbey neighborhood, died on August 1, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Tombili died after a month-long illnses. His death was announced on a sign posted on trees in the neighborhood's Gulec street.

Tombili's fame spread worldwide after his picture appeared on the website 9gag.com, where his passing was also memorialized.
In addition to its wealth of history, and lately, political crises, Istanbul has become famous for its huge population of affable stray cats and dogs.
