Police arrested a Lebanese man Friday who had allegedly stolen the mobile phone of an employee at the church from which he received monthly donations.
Houssam Akar, 25, was caught by police when he was riding a bus in Sidon Friday, a security source said.
Akar had been wanted over several arrest warrants for committing robbery, fraud and signing forged checks, the source added.
Every month, the man used to visit one of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church’s officers in Sidon to receive cash assistance.
During his last visit, he stole the mobile phone of an employee at the office and escaped, which prompted her to file a complaint at the police station.
Led by Maj. Jean Ghustine, a police unit looked into Akar’s movements and caught him in a trap at the seaside road linking Sidon to the village of Zahrani, the source explained.
The man, who was riding a public bus, did not resist arrest and confessed to committing the robbery and other crimes.
