U.S. wireless carriers are not so excited that the world is Googling "ISIS" like never before. After all, it is not for the carriers' mobile wallet app that they have been trying to promote to customers for months, but rather it is for the jihadist terrorist group in Syria and Iraq that has been grabbing headlines globally.
Bloomberg reported last week that AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile US have collectively decided to change the name of their Isis app, which allows customers to pay their bills and expenses by simply tapping their smartphones.
"We have no interest in sharing a name with a group whose name has become synonymous with violence," Isis CEO Michael Abbott wrote in a blog post, as reported by Bloomberg. "Our hearts go out to those who are suffering."
The app, which already has had a hard time getting off the ground before the jihadist group nameshare, will continue to operate while CEOs figure out how to rebrand the program to customers.
ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) is an extremist jihadist group that has grabbed headlines in recent weeks due to its widespread, violent offensives in Syria and Iraq.
