A housewife Tuesday surprised a court when she denied telling prosecutors she saw her husband sexually molesting their housemaid inside a pigeon cage.
After swearing-in before the Dubai Court of First Instance, the 31-year-old woman astonished the bench of judges when she firmly rebuffed her statement before prosecutors that she saw her 37-year-old Emirati husband sexually molesting their 25-year-old Indonesian housemaid.
"I did not say that at all. Actually I didn't see him anytime molesting her… and on that particular day I was outside home. Actually there was no Russian translator present when prosecutors questioned me. Prosecutors asked me how our house looked… but they didn't ask me if I saw him or not. I didn't say that I spotted him molesting the maid," I.N. testified before Presiding Judge Rifaat Tolba.
Prosecutors charged 37-year-old H.S., who is a policeman, with beating and raping 25-year-old N.F., sexually molesting and abusing her repeatedly, and threatening to kill her if she reported the abuse to police.
Defence witness
According to the charge sheet, prosecutors listed I.N. as a prosecution witness. She was cited claiming she saw her husband molesting N.F.
The suspect's lawyer Saeed Al Gailani Tuesday produced I.N. as a ‘defence witness'. During the hearing, she denied her statement before prosecutors.
The court's Russian translator was present when I.N. was called in to give her testimony before the bench of judges.
Pigeon cage
The defendant denied raping the Indonesian housemaid at home and sexually abusing her in a pigeon cage.
Replying to questions by Judge Tolba and advocate Al Gailani, I.N. said: "She worked for us six months and we were good to her. She was a good housemaid. All I know is that she spent long hours talking over the phone with my husband's nephew."
N.F. claimed the suspect raped her nearly 14 times in different parts of his villa in Al Warqa.
"I am not guilty. I didn't rape or threaten her. That did not happen," argued H.S. when he defended himself in court.
Prosecutors claim H.S. beat his housemaid, undressed and raped her on various occasions.
Al Gailani is to present his defence to the judge when the court case reconvenes on November 15.
