Four Sharjah Police officials stood trial for allegedly damaging property and endangering people's lives by chasing a car and causing injury to its passengers.
During the court hearing, two police officials A.A and S. A, who attended the court hearing along with their lawyer Mohammed Ahmed bin Mayed, denied the accusation and pleaded not guilty. They said that they did not chase or hit the car of the complainant.
The lawyer requested the court to refer the case back to the Sharjah Public Prosecution to hear the police officials who were not interrogated about the incident.
He also requested the court to address the concerned at Saaed and verify the incident that took place on Jan. 27, 2017. The lawyer said it was the complainant, driving a Nissan 4WD, who hit the two police vehicles and collided with a number of other cars while escaping the accident scene.
The lawyer told Khaleej Times that the police officials did not chase the suspect or endanger his life. "The complainant is 'wanted' for various cases in Abu Dhabi. So, after getting legal permission from the Sharjah Public Prosecution, the police officials carried an ambush around 6pm at Al Seeh area. Two police vehicles surrounded the complainant's car and the police officials asked the complainant to come out of his car. He refused and suddenly moved his car to hit the two police cars and many others in order to escape.
"He then drove to a house, owned by a UAE national, and then lodged a complaint against the police officials and claimed they chased him and hit his car. He also claimed that he was accompanied by his wife and that their lives were endangered."
The court adjourned the case and referred it back to the public prosecution to take the testimonies of the police officials.
