According to Egypt's daily Al Ahram newspaper, a 10 year-old elementary student was denied multiple requests to visit the bathroom by his teacher, before he dropped dead in the classroom.
Despite the boy's increasingly desperate and constant pleas, accompanied by intense fits of tears, the teacher in charge refused to budge and would not permit her student to leave the classroom. Directly or indirectly, it appears that this stringent denial exacerbated the child's medical trauma, leading to his sudden collapse and death from what is believed to have been a case of acute food poisoning.
This crisis took place in al Omdah school in the village of Fima, just south of Cairo. The chief of police in Asyout, Lieutenant Abu Al Qasem Abu Al Dayef received a telephone call from the Eman General Hospital, informing him of the death of Ahmad Sultan Abdullah Madbouli, a 10 year-old child, reportedly dead from a severe bout of food poisoning. By then his body had been transported to the hospital's morgue.
The draconian-style Arabic language teacher had apparently expressly forbidden the student from being excused for a toilet break for three consecutive hours, causing the serverely distressed child to tip over into a state of violent nausea. The crying boy eventually burst out of the classroom without the teacher's consent, only to return to a beating at her harsh hands when he re-entered.
The child, Ahmad, already fragile and palpably unwell, reportedly died on the spot. The investigation into the dramatic incident continues.
