They are two sisters. They hold marketing and advertising positions in Dubai. All seems well for the two women in their mid-twenties. That’s all during the day, when they perform up to the requirements of their positions.
At night, the women, in their own words, “go crazy.” They both cite the “boredom” of living in Dubai, “it’s hot weather and little to do.”
That all changed earlier this year when they befriended two foreign men who had arrived in the country for work. They also smuggled in thousands of ecstasy pills, which the four, and usually a few others enjoy on a near nightly basis.
“We just love to get high and enjoy ourselves,” Mona told Bikyanews.com, asking that her surname be left private due to the stigma of drugs and criminal activity she participates in.
While at first glance, the use of ecstasy is a gateway into sexual adventures, but the women say the two men are their boyfriends and it is a “private affair.”
“Like most things in Dubai surrounding alcohol and drugs and sex, we have to keep it all on the quiet because if we got arrested, we all probably would go to prison,” added sister Razan.
Both the women are Jordanians who have lived in the Emirates for five years. They told Bikyanews.com that life became “boring and the same day in so when we met the two guys, it was a natural interest for us.”
But the drugs were not the first part of their relationship, Mona interjects. They went out in the traditional sense; dinners and movies were first.
“Then we started to get closer and began hanging out together in their flat. I saw the pills and was curious. We then started to enjoy it almost daily,” she continued.
Unlike other countries where drug use is a startling horror for many, these two girls say they are “responsible” about how they deal with their drugs and regular life.
“We both have great jobs and great boyfriends. I don’t want to ruin that, so if it meant giving up the drugs to have both of those, I think we would without a question,” added Razan.
For now, they are young and enjoying life. They aren’t concerned about the future too much, despite parents who continue to push suitors on them by the month.
“Our parents don’t know about our foreign boyfriends yet, so it is a difficult situation we are in at the moment. But we’ll see. Right now, we just enjoy the break from the city we get every night,” continued Mona.
