Cops in Dubai have launched a campaign to reduce the number quad bike accidents in the desert after three youngsters were injured in a crash.

The campaign which will run for a month has been dubbed ‘Desert without Blood’.

“We want to crackdown on the number of quad bike accidents in the desert. We want to raise the awareness of families who are camping in the desert to look after their children and prevent them from danger when driving bikes by wearing protection,” deputy director of Dubai Traffic Police Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui said.

Dubai Traffic Police has put up a tent in Al Warqa which has pictures of accidents displayed in it and tips for safe driving to drive home the message.

“We have also put a damaged car and quad bike on display to show the results of such driving in the desert. Owners of the car and the bike were victims such accidents,” Al Mazroui added.

Police said they choose Al Warqa because many families and individuals camp in the desert nearby and the area has witnessed a number of accidents recently.

Most recently, on Saturday there was an accident involving three Emirati teenagers who were injured in two separate quad bike collisions in the Al Warqa area.

Police said the teenagers were aged 17, 18 and 19 years old. “The accidents happened due to speeding and showing off on the sand,” a police statement said.

In separate accidents a man was killed on Saturday morning after being hit by a speeding car on Emirates Road and a British woman sustained severe injuries after being run over by a car in the car park of Al Ain Mall on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road in Dubai.
