Two suspected drug dealers have been busted in Dubai for smuggling narcotics hidden in cheese and chocolates.
Dubai Police said they got a tip-off that the pair were trading illegal painkillers in Al Mamzar.
“We set a trap for the 46-year-old Arab jobless suspect and caught him in possession of 1,957 tramadol pills. We also found pieces of hashish and heroin hidden in clever way in sweet boxes,” said the head of the anti-narcotics department, General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi. Officers also found Egyptian cheese stuffed with hashish and heroin.
Mahdi said: “The drugs were hidden in a very professional way. The man claimed the drugs did not belong to him. He said he got them from an unknown man who came into the country on a visit visa.
“He claimed that his friend (the second suspect) knew the smuggler who gave him the drugs already packed inside the cheese and sweets.
“Both of them had tramadol and hashish in their systems. They have been referred to Dubai Public Prosecution to finish the investigation but are initially charged with possessing and trading illegal painkillers and drugs.”
The hash and heroin weighed about 20g in total.
