Forget saving lives and helping others, this dubious doc is out to destroy women in leadership!
Chairperson of the UAE Genetic Diseases Association, Dr. Maryam Matar, delivered a speech on Monday begging women not to make important decisions while menstruating. 7Days reports that she delivered the speech at, of all things, an Arab Women in Leadership and Business Summit held in Dubai.
This qualified physcian - trained to save lives - killed off notions of gender equality and women's empowerment at the Summit, just days after Forbes released it's coveted 2014 list of the Arab world's most powerful women.
What's worse, rather than making her statement based on scientific research, or at least some semblence of fact, this dubious doc based her findings simply on her own, limited experience. According to Arabianbusiness.com Dr. Matar said "I noticed all decisions that I regret were directly related to my oestrogen. I used to take my period for granted, I did not care when it was my first day, when I was ovulating, when my oestrogen is up or progesterone is down.” Ahh, Dr. Ditz- do you think that maybe it could just be you?
The (formerly) distinguished doc begged the Middle East's finest females: “so please, as a woman leader, you have your calendar, please be aware about your first day of your period... two days before that and the first day of your menstruation and the second day try to avoid any decision. Please, I beg you to do that.” So rather than being chained to the kitchen, doctor's orders are that women should be chained to their calendars!
Luckily the attending crowd rejected the doctor's plea, dismissing it as backward. Arabianbusiness.com reported that May Khizam, CEO of a private investment firm, said the comments “just take us back 50 years,” and “feed into the male stereotype of women.”
Hippocrates, the father of western medicine and the sacred Hippocratic oath for medical professionals, counselled against such damaging doctors, saying "whenever a doctor cannot do good, he must be kept from doing harm". Perhaps Dr Matar should rethink her Hippocratic oath!
