The following security-related incidents were reported across Lebanon over the weekend: ISF ARRESTS ALLEGED
THIEF IN RESTAURANTA suspect was arrested in a restaurant in the town of Khaldeh on the charge of robbery, a statement from the Internal Security Forces said Sunday.
A complaint was filed Tuesday to Aley’s Souk al-Gharb police station by a resident claiming that someone had broken into a house in Bmekkin and stolen a metal safe containing $3,000 dollars in cash as well as gold jewelry valued at approximately $42,000.
The suspect – identified as M.A., a Palestinian national born in 1974 – was arrested Thursday with $2,800 and some of the jewelry in his possession. He admitted to having carried out the robbery by himself, using his wife’s car. ISF THWARTS KESROUAN BANK ROBBERYThe ISF said it thwarted a planned armed bank robbery set to take place in Kesrouan’s Ghazir, according to a statement released Sunday.
The robbery, which had been planned for Monday, was thwarted after the police station in Chouf’s Beiteddine received a tip that members of a gang were planning to carry out the operation.
On Aug. 17, police raided a house in Baabda’s Tahwitat al-Ghadir, arresting Syrian nationals S.Sh., born in 1992, and T.Aa., born in 1991.
“During investigations with them, they confessed ... and said that the operation’s date was to be Aug. 20,” the statement said.
ARMY ARRESTS FIVE FOR USING, ‘PROMOTING’ DRUGSThe Lebanese Army raided a resort in Chouf’s Rmeileh Sunday and arrested five people for allegedly using and “promoting” cocaine, according to an Army statement.
The suspects were identified as D.K., M.F., S.W., Aa.H. and S.Z.
The Army seized the cocaine, as well as a gun that was found in the suspects’ possession.
SUSPECT BEHIND THEFTS
IN KHALDEH ARRESTEDA man with a warrant out for his arrest was apprehended for a series of thefts carried out in the Aley town of Khaldeh after being chased down by the police, the ISF said Saturday in a statement.
The suspect, identified as Lebanese national M.R., born in 1994, allegedly confessed to stealing from more than 30 people in Khaldeh alongside an accomplice, as well as to stealing more than 10 motorcycles from the southern suburbs of Beirut.
He had six warrants out for his arrest for theft and drug-related charges, according to the statement.
The Internal Security Forces is working on locating the accomplice.
ISF arrests SMUGGLER who Held SYRIANS FOR RANSOMThe Internal Security Forces raided the home of a smuggler in Zahle and seized over 300 identity documents confiscated from Syrian nationals, a statement from the security agency said Saturday.
The ISF arrested Syrian national Q.Z., born in 1994, at his home during the raid.
Q.Z. allegedly admitted to smuggling Syrians into Lebanon and detaining them until a ransom was paid for their release.
The suspect is believed to be part of a larger ring, which in addition to smuggling Syrian nationals also confiscated identity documents from them and demanded money in exchange for the documents’ return.
