Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) announced today that it has received the HR Development Award in the Banking and Financial Sector at the Sharjah National Career Exhibition. The award highlights DIB’s long-standing commitment to Emiratisation, which saw the number of UAE nationals in the bank increase by 5% in 2010.

DIB’s participation at the Sharjah National Careers Exhibition is a key component of the bank’s long-term strategy to meet its ambitious Emiratisation target. The bank has already achieved 100% Emiratisation at branch manager level and, across the organisation, Emiratisation stands at an impressive 46%, an increase of 5% in 2010.

Obaid Al Shamsi, Chief of Human Resources at Dubai Islamic Bank, said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the organisers of the Sharjah National Career Exhibition for our excellence in developing young talent in the UAE. Emiratisation has been an integral part of company since its foundation in 1975 and today, through the full support of the DIB senior management, we rank among the very best in terms of employing and training the local workforce.”

DIB has several industry-leading programmes in place that aim to develop and retain UAE talent. Recently, the bank introduced i-recruit, an online portal designed to help people apply and track their application online for vacancies. This has succeeded in streamlining the recruitment process and ensuring that candidates end up in the appropriate roles for their skills and interests.

Upon joining DIB, employees receive world-class training and development through the Emarati programme, comprising a mixture of theoretical and practical training lasting six months. In 2010, more than a hundred and twenty nationals completed the Emirati programme.

DIB also has programmes in place, such as Qiyadee, which identify and equip outstanding employees for managerial positions, in addition to sponsorship and training programmes open to UAE nationals.

DIB will participate in next month’s Careers UAE to be held in Dubai, 21-23 March.
