ALBAWABA - YouTube revealed that it will soon enable users to request the removal of content generated by artificial intelligence without having to leave the platform. Additionally, videos featuring this type of content will soon be required to disclose it.
These new rules are expected to be implemented in the coming months amid concerns about the potential misuse of videos containing AI-generated elements for election influence, fraudulent activities, or involvement in false scenarios.
YouTube's Deputy Heads of Product Management, Emily Moxley, and Jennifer Flannery O'Connor, explained in a blog post that the platform will allow users to "request removal of content generated by AI or any manipulated content designed to deceive, including deepfakes or other types of content that have been manipulated to simulate a person identifiable through facial recognition, voice, or other biometric indicators."
They clarified that the criteria for content removal requests will specifically focus on distinguishing between satirical impersonation and videos that depict identifiable real individuals, according to the platform owned by Alphabet Inc.
Content creators will also be required to clearly indicate if the realistic content was created using AI, alerting viewers through a designated display screen.
The executives added, "A video that has been created by AI and portrays a realistically happening event that did not take place or a person saying or doing something they did not say or do is significant. This is particularly important in cases where the content addresses sensitive topics such as elections, conflicts, public health crises, or public figures."
Non-compliance with these rules will result in the removal or suspension of content from YouTube or the suspension of participation in the advertising revenue-sharing program.
YouTube also intends to empower the music industry to request the removal of any content generated to imitate an artist's style.
