'The Winter Egg': Fabergé's rare artwork sold for $30 million

ALBAWABA - A rare artwork created by the renowned Russian artist Peter Carl Fabergé at the request of former Russian Emperor Nicholas II was auctioned on Tuesday at Christie's in London.

According to sources, Peter Carl Fabergé's "The Winter Egg" was sold for over $30 million.

Margot Oganesyan, head of Fabergé and Russian art at Christie's, said in a statement that the piece, known as "The Winter Egg of the Russian Imperial Family," had achieved "a new world record for a work of Fabergé."

Who bought Fabergé's 'The Winter Egg'?

However, the identity or nationality of the person who purchased Fabergé's 'Winter Egg' was by Christie's auction house.

The "Winter Egg" is carved from fragile rock crystal and encrusted with more than 4,500 diamonds. It was recently valued at over $26.5 million, and it was sold for $30.22 million.

The CNN reported that "The Winter Egg" was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II as a gift for his mother back in 1913.

The Winter Egg's auction remained for only 3 minutes before it was sold to an anonymous person at Christie’s auction house in London.
