ALBAWABA – President-elect Donald Trump announced a 75-day postponement of the TikTok ban in the U.S. Trump plans to propose new solutions to resolve the TikTok-China issue.
TikTok ban in US
TikTok, the social media platform that allows users to create, share, and discover short-form videos, was officially banned in the US on January 19.
The decision came after the Supreme Court ruled to ban the popular app in the country, citing concerns over potential user data collection and influence operations by China. Notably, TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese internet technology company.
TikTok is not the only app being shut down alongside TikTok due to the recent US ban. Other applications are set to join the ban, including Lemon8, CapCut, Gauth, and Marvel Snap.

Trump proposes new solutions
Amid Trump’s inauguration ceremony yesterday, the new US president announced the postponement of TikTok ban in the country for approximately 75 days.
“If China is going to get information about young kids out of it, to be honest, I think we have bigger problems than that. I have the right to either sell it or close it, and we’ll make that determination,” Trump stated.
Trump previously stated that he might reconsider the ban, as he actually uses the app. Notably, TikTok is available again to users in the US and will stay available for the next 75 days.
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States,” TikTok officials stated.
It is worth noting that China may sign a deal with the US to allow TikTok to continue operating in the country, agreeing to abide by certain rules and regulations.
Now the question remains: Will TikTok be banned in the US after the 75 days, or will Trump and his new administration find a solution? Especially with reports suggesting that Elon Musk may potentially buy the app in the US.
