Tunisian, Moroccan Chambers of Commerce meet to discuss economic partnership

Fifteen Moroccan businessmen representing the chamber of commerce, industry and services of the region of Fes Meknes, met Tuesday morning in Tunis, their Tunisian counterparts in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis

(CCIT) to discuss ways to develop partnership between the two countries in various sectors.

"We aim to establish partnership relations with Tunisian businessmen in several economic sectors, including food processing, real estate development, construction, infrastructure, private education, trade, export and import legal advice, "said Abdallah Abdellaoui, 1st Vice President of the ICC Fes Meknes, in a statement to TAP.

"The development of the Tunisian-Moroccan economic relations will allow the two countries to access all other international markets such as Latin America, for example," he added.

For his part, Mounir Mouakhar, President of the CCIT said the B2B meeting is an opportunity to explore potential business opportunities between the two parties and develop synergies for a greater competitiveness of the economies of both countries on the Mediterranean, Arab, African and European level.

"The political and legal environment is currently very favourable to the development of relations between the two countries and take advantage of all the regulatory framework and existing legislation including the Agadir Agreement, the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union and all bilateral trade agreements, "he said.

According to Mounir Mouakhar, the trade deficit on Morocco's trade with Tunisia was superior to 500 million dirhams (113 million dinars), Tunisian exports to Morocco were about 353 million dinars Tunisians.

In this context, he reminded that the main products imported by Tunisia in Morocco are mineral fuels, machinery, electrical appliances and materials, machinery nuclear reactors, boilers, appliances and equipment, motor vehicles, tractors, plastics and articles thereof, cotton, cereals, cast iron, iron, steel, copper and pharmaceuticals.

Moreover, the main Tunisian products exported to Morocco are edible fruit, peel of citrus fruits or melons, machinery, electrical appliances and materials, fats, animal and vegetable oils, paper, pulp, rubber, chemicals, inorganic or organic compounds of precious metals, cast iron, iron and steel, plastics, appliances and machinery.

The partnership meeting was crowned by the signing of a twinning agreement between the ICC and CCIT Fes Meknes following the protocol signed between the two parties in 2006 which stipulates the exchange of economic and commercial information as well as all legislation relating to trade.
