ALBAWABA - In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump announced that he will implement a new 100% tariff on foreign movies to save American-made film productions across the country from "dying."

The US President also accused foreign movies of spreading messaging and propaganda to local audiences, deeming it a national threat. He called it a "concerted effort by other Nations," which are offering "all sorts of incentives to draw" filmmakers and studios away from the US.

In his Truth Social post, Trump announced that he authorized both the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to immediately implement the 100% tariff.

In response, the US Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, took to Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, "We’re on it."

He concluded the post with, "Any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"

The move sparked mixed reactions on social media, with several users opposing Trump's decision while others expressed confusion about the nature of the soon-to-be-implemented tariff, due to its vagueness.

A social media user on X wrote, "So we are shooting Lord of the Rings in Brooklyn."

Another added, "There needs to be clarification here… does this mean US production companies filming in other countries will be hit with the tariff or International production / distribution companies releasing films in the US?"
