ALBAWABA – Despite TikTok awaiting of a potential death sentence in the US with a bill to ban the Chinese app awaiting congress vote and president Biden stating that he is ready to sign off on the decision if it passes congress, the social media giant appears to be fully focused on the competition with Meta, as new leaks report a potential Instagram-like app called TikTok Photos coming soon.

TikTok’s main selling point has always been short-form videos, which proved to have a massive audience causing other platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram to try and grab a piece of the pie with features like Shorts and Reels.

However, a new leak by blogger TheSpAndroid, who is known for Google apps’ leaks, discovered that TikTok is working on a new platform formed around sharing photos.

The new platform appears through decompiling of TikTok’s current app, where references to a new platform called ‘TikTok Photos’ are found hidden in the main app’s code. Code strings reveal the Photos app with “TikTok Photos will be launched soon, we hope to help you gain new audiences in the new app”, as well as some integration between the main and new apps that allows users to switch between and share content on both.

TheSpAndroid reveals they were also able to dig out potential icons and logo images of the new TikTok Photos app, which shows a ‘P’ letter with similar colour palette to the original TikTok app. No info is available on a release time-frame for the app or region availability yet.
