Azerbaijan International Operating Co. reportedly failed to encounter gas in its third well in the Shakh Deniz field in the Caspian Sea offshore Azerbaijan.
The well apparently yielded only water.
The AIOC group, which is led by BP Amoco, will use well results to help determine the exact location of the field's gas deposit.
AIOC partners include Statoil, Socar, Lukoil, Elf, Iran's OIEC and Turkey's TPAO.
