The Syrian government has adopted a long-term tourism plan, reported the Al-Awsat daily. The plan, which is set to run through 2020, is designed to raise the prominence of Syrian tourism sector within the national economy.
This plan is designed to highlight features of Syria’s environment, history, and culture that it is believed will be appealing to tourists. In addition, the aim is to raise awareness regarding the country’s special role in the region as well as throughout the world.
The Syrian ministry of tourism has announced that it will receive $100 million toward building 13 new hotels in the Adawi suburb of Damascus. This project, located adjacent to the northern gate of Damascus City, is scheduled to begin at the end of August.
The ministry also revealed that it had allocated SP 200 million toward the construction of roads to the major historical and tourist sites around the country. Also included in this project are a 15-km-long road to Tadmour, and an 18-km-long road along the coast between Latakia and Jableh. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
