ALBAWABA - According to Bloomberg, Japanese tech giant Sony is reportedly working on a new handheld console to rival competitors such as the Nintendo Switch, and Valve's Steam Deck.

Unfortunately, users will have to wait a long time for Sony's next handheld as reports claim that it's still in early development and is years away from a release date. Reports also added that the handheld console might not reach the market.

The upcoming handheld console could prove profitable for Sony and even beneficial to fans who don't have enough time to play on their TVs. Social media users are also hoping that Sony bring back hidden gems like Gravity Rush back.

According to sources, the design might be built on Sony's recent 'PlayStation Portal' which has a 60hz 8-inch LCD screen, and what seems to be a PS5 controller cut in half and put on both sides.

The 'PlayStation Portal' gave many PSP fans false hope since it ended up being a $200 screen that could only stream games from the user's PS5 which required a strong internet connection and a console deeming it useless for users who don't own the PS5.

Fans took to social media and expressed their excitement about the reported news. They've been asking Sony for a handheld device since the launch of the PS Vita in 2012.

Handheld gaming has seen a rise in popularity among gamers for its convenience and comfort, companies like Valve jumped on the bandwagon after Nintendo launched the Switch which despite its outdated hardware proved to sell tremendously thanks to exclusive games like Mario Oddysey, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby and Splatoon.

By the time of writing this article, the Japanese tech giant declined to comment on the matter in question.
