Global software vendors operating in the Middle East have joined to launch the Middle East’s first Software Licensing Guide. The handbook is designed to provide a quick reference to the various licensing modules and agreements that global software providers offer in this region.
Tech Data, Microsoft, Oracle, Computer Associates, Caldera, Symantec, Veritas and Novell took part in the preparation and printing of the guide, which will be distributed through their own channels to the reseller channel and the end-user market.
“This is the first time that we see this kind of action in the region. We believe that this will assist us in promoting licensing awareness and creating a call to action for all small to medium businesses throughout the region,” said Jawad Al-Redha, regional director of the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
Steve Lockie, managing director of Tech Data commented: “Many organizations are looking for ways to reduce risks associated with pirated or unlicensed incorrectly licensed software and this guide will be a valuable reference for them. The Middle East Software Licensing Handbook also maps the shortest path to legal software licensing and therefore help the regional channel to build viable long term relationships with the market.”
According to Tech Data’s latest market research, resellers trading that focus on providing software solutions have been growing steadily across the region. The research, conducted by to Paradigm Research, a Dubai-based research company, found that in the proportion of resellers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trading software have has increased by 15 percent from 2000 to 2001. — (menareport.com)
