The SMB Group of companies, a regional Information Technology (IT) distributor and solution provider, recently appointed Colin Summers to the position of group general manager. Reporting to the board of directors, Summers will head up the sales, marketing and operations across the group's distribution, corporate, retail and service interests throughout the Middle East.

“At the rate we are growing our business every year, it is very important that we broaden our senior management experience to ensure that we continue to enhance our level of services and support to our customers, both end user and channel, and our vendors,” commented B.S.A. Tahir, SMB's managing director.

Summers has worked with organizations that operated at all levels of the Middle East regional IT distribution channel—from systems integration to retail to distribution to manufacturer. Until recently, he held the position of general manager for 3Com's Middle East, North Africa and Turkey operations for almost five years. Prior to that, he was the founding managing director of Computer 2000 (now renamed Tech Data) for four years and regional manager for Graytech before that.

“His experience within the regional IT distribution channel means an in-depth knowledge of channel and enterprise solutions, sales management, product, channel and corporate marketing, service and solutions, and strong logistics background,” explained Seyed Bukhary, SMB director.

SMB Computers—the corporate solutions division of the group—has recently won a number of projects with major local enterprises including Emirates Airlines and Dubai Municipality. It is making long-term infrastructural investments that include a commitment towards a new Dubai service center and stores facility as well as upgrading its Jebel Ali operations.

Combined with the new branch in Abu Dhabi and a contract with J D Edwards for the deployment of a new business computer system throughout the company's operations, the group expects further growth.

SMB Computers was established in Dubai for over 12 years and represents major manufacturers such as Acer, Creative, Epson, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hewlett Packard, Palm, Samsung, SMP, Teac, US Robotics and others. The company has branch operations in Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi and Cairo.

The SMB Group comprises of six divisions: SMB Distribution L.L.C, Peripherals Gulf Limited, SMB Computers L.L.C (Retail Stores), SMB Computers LLC (Corporate Sales), SMB Customer Care, SMB Networking and Communications. — (menareport.com)
