ALBAWABA - Sega and Creative Assembly's looter shooter, Hyenas was canceled in September 2023. Recent claims from Sega said that it was their biggest budget game yet before the company sacked the project.
It came to no one's surprise that Hyenas was called off since the gaming market is saturated with games similar to Creative Assembly's latest game.
According to VGC, Developer Creative Assembly has suggested that the game was canceled due to “ambitious” plans and high competition in the multiplayer shooter space.
When they asked Creative Assembly about what happened, an anonymous developer wrote:
“So what went wrong? Total lack of direction, many of the leadership asleep at the wheel but they never seem to lose their jobs. An engine change, part way through the process.
Attempting to break into a saturated market, and not committing to do anything adventurous with the game.”
It was unusual to see this type of game from the developer behind the critically acclaimed Alien Isolation.
Despite being critically acclaimed, Alien Isolation didn't do commercially well which is such a shame since we think it's one of the best survival horror games to hit the market.
Sega - Hyenas was our biggest budget game

Creative Assembly said that they are not angry at Sega for canceling the game but voiced their frustrations on the matter because they have been suffering from lay-offs since then, even with departments who did not work on Hyenas.
A creative Assembly employee by the name of Will Overgard took to Facebook and said:
"It's heartbreaking to see so many friends and former cohorts here being let go by both The Creative Assembly and Epic.
But I'm not going to say I'm sad because I'm not. I'm bloody livid. This wasn't a natural occurrence or some hand-wave of the gods, these were colossal fuckups by people paid very large sums of money and those mistakes have cost people their jobs.
So I wish all affected excellent jobs in better places, strong future unions, and the blood of those who failed you"
We truly hope that Creative Assembly recovers from this unfortunate event and make more games similar to Alien Isolation in the future.
