With Saudi Arabia having already announced a timetable of its own, other Gulf states are expected to shortly follow and make it compulsory to let only vehicles running on unleaded fuel be launched henceforth in their respective markets, reported Gulf News.
The kingdom has mandated that from the automobile model year 2002, vehicles must run for unleaded fuel only. A model year would start from the second half of the previous year.
Unleaded fuel will become available for Saudi vehicle owners from January 2001. The Kingdom accounts for over 50 percent of the Gulf's auto market.
Bahrain will start offering unleaded fuel at its petrol stations from September. Kuwait did so last October, while Qatar started from July. The UAE and Oman have been offering unleaded fuel for some time already. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
